Microsoft confirms that Xbox 360 owners will be able to enjoy free access to online multiplayer this weekend without needing to have an Xbox Live Gold subscription between May 1 and May 3.

The Xbox 360 may be a pretty old console right now, but this doesn't mean that Microsoft no longer cares about the device, as it just released earlier this week a special firmware update with new options and enhanced external storage support.

In celebration of this special system software release, Microsoft is now running a free multiplayer weekend on the Xbox 360 between May 1 and May 3.

As such, during this time period, all Xbox 360 owners will be able to go online and play with others without needing to have a Xbox Live Gold subscription tied to their account.

In order to promote this special offer, a video was also released by Microsoft, highlighting some of the most popular multiplayer experiences on the Xbox 360, from Battlefield Hardline to Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, or Grand Theft Auto 5 Online.

Bear in mind that only the multiplayer portion will be available for free, as other Gold advantages, like Games with Gold, aren't covered by the promotion. Check out the special video below.
