A bunch of talented modders have created a unique StarCraft II piece of content, completely remaking WarCraft III on the new engine.

In case you’re feeling nostalgic about WarCraft III: Reign of Chaos, there’s a pretty big chance that you’re also doing an odd search or two a couple of times per year, hoping to find something similar to it, only with its roots in the 21st century.

WarCraft: Armies of Azeroth is the answer to all your prayers, a StarCraft II-based remake of WarCraft III, keeping the original gameplay, balance and design crafted by Blizzard Entertainment fifteen years ago, and adding some fresh elements and a massive visual overhaul, taking advantage of the more powerful game engine.

WarCraft III was a truly stellar real-time strategy game, with a perfect balance between its three asymmetrical factions, and a ton of innovative ideas.

Blizzard itself uploaded a bunch of WarCraft III assets and icons to the Battle.net app, but the developer failed to announce anything at this year’s edition of BlizzCon, the be-all and end-all of its properties.

The mod looks great and seems to be really promising judging from the video and screenshots that its creators released, but since it’s an unofficial initiative that uses a lot of Blizzard assets, they might get hit by a cease and desist letter, especially if Blizz is itself considering reviving the franchise.
