Naughty Dog confirms that its upcoming Uncharted 4: A Thief's End third-person shooter will offer vast, open levels that haven't been attempted by the studio ever since Jak 3 was released on the PlayStation 2 many years ago.

Uncharted 4 is the next big entry in the shooter series made by Naughty Dog, and the Sony-owned studio has emphasized several times that it's using the PS4's power to ensure some great mechanics and features.

Among them will be less linear, more open levels that reward exploration and are filled with different paths to the end goal.

While talking with OPM, via ZGhiochi, Naughty Dog mentions that the open levels were a challenge for the studio, as the team was no longer used to making such environments. The previous game made by Naughty Dog to incorporate such open areas was Jak 3, according to the studio, so players will have lots of great zones to explore.

Said exploration can be achieved not just through climbing and running about, but also through mechanics like the grappling hook or the axe.

You can expect to see much more of Uncharted 4's levels in the months to come, as we get closer to the title's expected release on the PS4 platform this fall.
