The third-person MMO shooter has a very interesting premise

Ubisoft might have unwittingly revealed plans regarding a future alpha for its upcoming multiplayer online third-person shooter Tom Clancy's The Division.

The Division has a pretty interesting premise, being a sort of realistic third-person survival shooter taking place in North America, after a viral outbreak sends the country into disarray.

You are a member of a task force assembled for exactly the purpose of securing social order until the government has time to recoup from the crisis, and are tasked with helping the population and protecting the innocent from the rampant wave of criminal activity.

Since the game takes place in the near future, there are a ton of neat gadgets to use, and the fact that players can choose whether or not they want to run into human-controlled players while undergoing missions only adds to the game's potential.

Some nosy Reddit sleuths found references to a possible alpha on the game's official website, a notion which actually sounds quite plausible.

Given the huge nature of the ambitious project, and the complexity of its online interactions, a public alpha test for The Division might well be in the cards.

Since Ubisoft has not yet commented on the issue, take this information with a decently sized lump of salt.

The Division is expected later this year, on the Windows PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One platforms.
