Everybody is excited about the official reveal

Skateboarding legend Tony Hawk has confirmed that we will be getting a new THPS game sometime later this year.

Although this isn't really news, as the new Tony Hawk's Pro Skater game has been teased a couple of times so far, with the latest being during Sony's keynote at CES 2015 in Las Vegas, earlier this year, it's still something to hang on to, since nobody has made any announcements yet.

Nobody knows anything yet about the title, with details such as prospective release date, platforms, developer and even publisher being a mystery so far.

A year ago, Tony Hawk teased something about working on a new game with Activision, but neither the corporation nor the athlete revealed any more information.

The Tony Hawk's Pro Skater series was hugely successful when it first came out, having a few glory years from 1999 to around 2005, during which the games inspired many kids to take up skatboarding in real life, and many real-life skateboarders to try out video games.

Interest in the franchise waned, but since it's been a really long time from the last proper skateboarding game, a fresh title might just rekindle the community's interest and see mainstream success once more.

It's certainly going to be interesting to see how a modern skateboarding game looks and what gameplay innovations will be on the table, so stay tuned for the official announcement.
