Alien: Isolation creative lead Alistair Hope did a postmortem panel on the game at the Game Developer Conference in San Francisco, revealing some unexpected details regarding the development process.

The designer talked about the making of Alien: Isolation, pointing out that the first-person horror survival video game started out as a third-person game.

While working on the early version of the title, the team drew inspiration from many other entries in the horror genre, including Resident Evil 4, Dead Space, Clock Tower, and Silent Hill 2.

The devs initially aimed to emulate the perspective, pacing and style of those games, but after a bit of experimentation, they came to the conclusion that Alien: Isolation would offer a much more compelling experience when played in the first person, which was congruent with the original vision.

Developer Creative Assembly provided some footage from an early prototype, which Destructoid captured and made available on YouTube for everyone to see. If you're curious about how the game looks when played from a third-person perspective, you can check it out below.

If you want to know how the game plays in first-person and why it's such a good horror game and the first video game to truly convey the mood of Ridley Scott's original Alien film, you can check out our review of Alien: Isolation.
