Still no release date though, but we're prowling

The development process of the PlayStation 4 edition of Journey is apparently going smoothly, according to Jenova Chen, the creative mind behind the entire thing.

Thatgamecompany's groundbreaking walking simulator Journey was one of the most well-received video games on the PlayStation 3 home console, restoring many people's faith in humanity.

Now the action-less adventure video game is on its way to the PlayStation 4, but we still don't know when it's coming.

What we do know, however, is that Jenova Chen, president and creative director of Thatgamecompany, has seen an early build of the PS4 port, and apparently it does the game justice.

Journey is a weird kind of video game, devoid of conventional gameplay, and instead providing a serene trek through interesting locations, focusing on treating the eyes and mind to color and shape, rather than prod at us to shoot stuff in the face.

The game won a ton of awards and nominations and was so successful that Sony decided that it just had to offer PlayStation 4 owners who never had the chance to try it on the PS3 the opportunity to enjoy the whimsical and emotional experience in Journey.

A different kind of interactive experience

Journey isn't Thatgamecompany's first game that attempts to offer a new kind of interactive experience, as the company has released two more games on Sony-owned platforms, Flow and Flower, both of them more interested in evoking feelings and providing a gorgeous visual experience for their players, rather than challenging gameplay mechanics or enthralling storylines.

The experimental nature of the titles made them popular with both traditional video game consumers and newcomers, offering them something that is not entrenched in the tenets of conventional video game design.

Players control a robed figure walking on the desert, with a large mountain, barely visible in the distance, as their final goal. Gamers can run into other players during their journey but cannot initiate direct communication.

The game is now being ported for the PlayStation 4 home entertainment system by Sony Santa Monica and Tricky Pixels.
