Cities: Skylines has managed to be a solid hit for the development team at Colossal Order and for publisher Paradox Interactive and it seems that the record initial sales for the title were accompanied by limited piracy.

Shams Jorjani, an executive at the company, writes on his Twitter account that one of the reasons for the loyalty of the players was the fact that the title supported the Steam workshop from launch and that meant legitimate copies of the game had quick access to new content.

He also says that Paradox is using the Valve digital distribution solution to make sure that their games offer a superior experience when compared to their pirated counterparts and that no DRM is required to do that.

The company is known for moving fast in order to deliver patches for its titles when a feature is not working correctly, with two hotfixes in two days deployed for Europa Universalis IV.

Cities: Skylines is designed to appeal to the fans who are looking for a solid city builder that gives them a set of solid mechanics and plenty of ways to tweak their settlement.

More than half a million copies of the game were sold in 24 hours.
