After hearing that they'll have to pay for mods in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim via the Steam Workshop, users of the popular service aren't too happy, especially when it seems that the actual mod makers only get 25% of the price users pay for their creations.

Valve and Bethesda revealed yesterday that mods made for Skyrim and distributed via the Steam Workshop can now be sold by their creators for a profit, instead of being offered just for free.

The huge announcement has generated a fierce backlash in the community, as many users feel like they're being strong-armed to pay for something they used to get for free.

What's more, it was soon confirmed that from the price of a mod, its actual creator gets just 25%, as the rest of the 75% goes directly to Bethesda and Valve.

As such, a pretty fierce boycott has kicked off amidst Steam or Reddit users, while Valve declines to make any comment concerning its new idea of premium mods sold through the Workshop.

The studio did mention in yesterday's announcement that more games with mods on the Workshop will get these premium mods in the future, so it's going to be interesting to see if this backlash will put a hamper on these plans.
