Microsoft confirms that Xbox One owners will be able to download a brand new system software update for their home console later today, June 5, which brings a few behind the scenes changes that prepare the platform for future, bigger firmware releases.

The Xbox One has been around for some time now and Microsoft has kept updating the home console with an array of monthly firmware releases that have improved existing features, while adding lots of new functionality to it.

The corporation is currently still testing the large June firmware update with members of the Xbox Live Preview program, but until then Microsoft Community Manager Larry Hryb confirms on Twitter that a smaller system software release is going live today, June 5.

The new firmware update doesn't bring any new features, instead focusing on behind the scenes tweaks which should ensure that future software releases work as intended.

Without a doubt Microsoft is going to showcase some fresh features for its Xbox One at E3 2015, during its own June 15 press conference, so it's possible that this smaller update eprepares for these improvements.

According to the most recent statements, the Xbox One will get the Windows 10 operating system in September, so even more features will appear with the long awaited OS.
