Video game publisher Ubisoft announces that the classic Risk game experience is now offered on the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4, with the console version of the board game offering access to new 3D tactical battlefields, more ways to tweak the winning conditions, and the rules that are used in the Legacy version of the game.

There are also plans to launch it later in the year on the Xbox 360 and the PS3, but no cross-platform play is supported.

The virtual version of Risk also adds videos featuring combat sequences, designed to show how the troops of players clash as they seek to control the world.

Ubisoft is also introducing a feature called Iris, designed to offer explanations and tutorials, and the game supports online play with a four league system.

The most interesting feature of the console-based Risk is that gamers can use the Legacy rules, which transform the experience in some interesting ways and encourage players to find groups with which to play in the long term.

Hasbro has already announced that it has long-term plans to bring its classic board games to the virtual space, keeping their mechanics intact while adding some cool new social features and interactive elements.
