The PlayStation Vita might not be the most attractive hardware platform that Sony is working on, but the company is ready to celebrate that the handheld is now three years old with a solid sale for its most interesting titles and with some free content.

The official PS Blog announces that gamers will be able to get the Toro and Friends PS Vita Theme, the Fat Princess: Piece of Cake 8 Gold Coin Pack and the Himiko character for Destiny of Spirits without paying for them as long as they move before March 2.

There's also a long list of titles for the PlayStation Vita which are discounted and fans of the device will also be able to win some other prizes.

Sony is not yet saying what its long term-plans for the device are at the moment and whether it wants to continue to market it as a companion to the PlayStation 4 or a new approach is being explored.

A price cut might be implemented soon, although no official info on it has been offered yet.

The Vita has been selling less units than the 3DS from Nintendo, its main rival, and both handhelds have been affected by the increased use of smartphones as mobile gaming devices.
