The team at Sony in charge of the PlayStation brand announces that users of both the PlayStation 4 and the PS3 can now get access to the Plex service, as long as they are located in the United States, Canada or Latin America.

The app will allow them to access the full Plex service, which can be used to organize a variety of personal media, regardless of where it is located, and everything can then be streamed to another device, with a range of options about presentation and access.

The PS Blog announcement adds, “Plex also allows you to share your media collection across all major platforms and devices as well as with your friends and family. At launch, the app will only allow you to stream your videos, but the ability to stream your music and photos will be coming shortly.”

Those who are already Plex Pass subscribers can get the app immediately on the PlayStation 4 and the PS3.

Sony also says that in the future it will be offered to those who do not subscribe as well, although a launch date for the free version, which might have some limitations, has not yet been announced.

The company is also unwilling to say whether Plex or a similar solution will be offered to PlayStation 4 users in Europe.
