The team at Sony which supervised the creation of the original drama Powers seems to have decided to order a second season, which will be once again offered via the PlayStation Network service that covers the PlayStation 4, the PS3 and the Vita.

The Hollywood Reporter says that it has spoken to sources inside the company who are saying that the new season will only be aired in 2016.

Sony is satisfied with the viewership numbers and believes that even more fans will be ready to tune in the coming months.

Powers is based on a comic book from Brian Michael Bendis dealing with a cop tasked with covering crimes that are linked to individuals with special abilities.

Sharlto Copley plays the main character, and the cast also includes Susan Heyward, Eddie Izzard, and Michelle Forbes.

John Koller, vice president of platforms marketing at Sony, states, "We believe original content will continue to be a key pillar as we broaden the value proposition for PlayStation Plus, and we’re excited for what’s to come with season two of Powers."

It's unclear at the moment whether the company is planning to create other television content in the future.

Microsoft has apparently dropped plans to create TV-style series for the Xbox One.
