Sony confirms well ahead of time that it's going to be running a planned maintenance period on its PlayStation Network online service on March 23, meaning that, for two and a half hours, the feature won't be available on PS4, PS3, or PS Vita.

The PlayStation Network hasn't gone through the best of times in recent years as Sony's online service began the year with a series of outages right during the holidays, and continued with a few more downtimes.

However, the Japanese corporation is still determined to delight customers and confirms that, for a short time on March 23, a planned maintenance period is going to take place, according to the official website.

As such, between 9am and 11:30am PT (aka 12pm to 2:30pm ET or 16:00 to 18:30 GMT) the PlayStation Network will be unavailable across the PS4, PS3, and PS Vita platforms.

However, due to the service's special technology, those who sign into the PSN on the aforementioned consoles, will still be able to play online most of their games and access applications like Netflix during the maintenance period. However, to play online on the PS4, you must be on your primary console.

Unfortunately, specific services like the PS Store or the Account Management page, won't be available during maintenance hours.
