No permanent discount on Gold memberships

Microsoft has released a statement confirming that the recent price cut to the Xbox Live Gold 12-month subscription to just 40 USD (around 32 EUR) is just a temporary discount and won't remain in effect from now on, so act fast if you want to get the good deal.

Xbox Live Gold membership is required by Microsoft from all Xbox 360 and Xbox One owners who want to play online, access exclusive deals, or get the free Games with Gold titles.

The service has been criticized time and time again and Microsoft has declined to comment on the actual subscription's value, while employing routine discounts or price cuts for certain variations like the 12-month membership packs.

Yesterday, the official Microsoft Store started selling 12-month Xbox Live Gold subscriptions for just 40 USD (32 EUR), leading some to believe that the price might have been reduced permanently, much like how the Xbox One is now 350 USD/EUR after the success of the price cut during the winter holidays.

Now, Microsoft's Larry Hryb confirms on Reddit that the discount is just a temporary one and the price will go back up once the deal ends.

"The price has not been officially lowered. This is a temporary price promotion by the Microsoft Store. Just like when you see it on sale at Amazon," he explains.

As such, if you do want to take advantage of the smaller price, act now.
