The passing of Leonard Nimoy was devastating news for all Star Trek fans, and those who like the video game representations of the universe will be able to pay tribute to the actor in a memorial which will be enacted in Star Trek Online on March 5, when the MMO is getting its weekly maintenance.

The announcement was made on the official forums of the title by lead producer Stephen Ricossa, but it is currently unclear what form the monument will have.

He states that "Everyone at Cryptic Studios was saddened to hear of his passing and we want to make sure we never forget the cultural impact of the man or the character he played. To that end, the Star Trek Online team will implement a standing in-game memorial to Spock and Leonard Nimoy."

The actor portrayed Spock in the original series of Star Trek and the movie series that followed it, and he was also involved in the reboots that J.J. Abrams handled.

Star Trek Online is a MMO which uses the extensive universe of the franchise to allow gamers to become a captain, using races ranging from human to Klingon and Romulan, and then explore the galaxy and deal with a variety of story-based events.
