The teams at 343 Industries, Microsoft and Simon & Schuster are announcing that they are ready to reveal the official cover of the new Last Light novel linked to the Halo series, which is set to be launched on September 7 of this year.

The book is written by Troy Denning and is the first one in the franchise to use the core elements of a murder mystery.

The cover of the Last Light Halo title is pretty impressive, but it's unclear whether fans will be interested in reading a novel that's so different from what they are familiar with.

The official synopsis states that the action will take place in 2553 on Gao, a planet that has a vast system of caverns with therapeutic effects.

The involved companies add, "But now Gao natives are turning up brutally murdered down there – violent acts that happen to coincide with the recent arrival of a UNSC research battalion protected by Spartan Blue Team, led by the renowned Spartan-II Fred-104."

A detective named Veta Lopis is the main character of Halo: Last Light and the action will focus on Forerunner tech, Covenant factions and ONI activities centered around a murder mystery linked to a wider conspiracy.
