Matt Armstrong, who is the original creator of the Borderlands series, is announcing that he is leaving Gearbox in order to seek a new adventure in the video game industry, although he has not offered clear details about his plans.

The developer created the core ideas for the series and he wrote most of the first video game in the franchise.

Gearbox has not made any official statement about his departure and it's unclear who will take over his duties.

Recently, Borderlands also witnesses the departure of Anthony Burch, who worked as a writer on both the sequel and The Pre-Sequel.

Even worse, the entire 2K Australia studio, which created the most recent installment, was closed down by 2K Games.

It's unclear at the moment what impact the departures have on the future of the franchise, but Gearbox has confirmed that it is actively working on another title in the series, although no information has been offered about it.

The new title will be reportedly launched on the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4, but Randy Pitchford, the leader of the company, has suggested that his team has other priorities at the moment and that a reveal might not be made this year.
