The development team at DICE is announcing that the community playing Battlefield 4 needs to decide on the kind of terrain they want to see used in the coming map that will be created in cooperation with fans.

A new blog on the official site explains that gamers need to choose between jungle, desert and mountain settings.

This is the first big decision gamers have to make during the development process, which is at the moment in the concept phase.

DICE also explains that it is not allowing the community to use an urban setting, with cities and lots of buildings, because they are rigid, expensive and performance heavy.

David Sirland, a producer on Battlefield 4, and Thomas Andersson, the creative director, add, "This means we would have to spend much more time optimizing content instead of perfecting it for gameplay and balance. It also makes it much more difficult to have consistent and good destruction, purely based on performance and memory. An example of an urban map is Siege of Shanghai."

Battlefield 4 has recently received a massive winter update and DICE says it plans to support the game with more tweaks and new content in the coming months.
