A new version of the Xbox One isn't coming anytime soon

Microsoft Xbox division boss Phil Spencer confirms that the recent rumors concerning an Xbox One "mini" version are not real and that such a project isn't in development. As such, it's unlikely that a new version of the home console is going to appear anytime soon.

The Xbox One made its public debut onto the market in November of 2013. Since then, things haven't gone all that well for Microsoft's console, as only after price cuts and aggressive bundles did the device manage to outperform its rival - Sony's PS4 - and even then just for a few months.

As such, when rumors popped up about an Xbox One "mini" version that boasted a smaller size and no Blu-ray drive, some people thought it might be a new chance of trumping the PS4.

Unfortunately for them, in a surprising move, Microsoft's Phil Spencer confirms on Twitter that the rumors are "not real."

He doesn't go into any details about the possibility of seeing a redesigned Xbox One, so it's unclear if Microsoft is going to release a new version of the console in the near future.

During the Xbox 360's lifecycle, three different versions of the console were launched onto the market. Meanwhile, Sony's PS3 went through three iterations as well. Both the Xbox One and the PS4 are at their very first versions, although things could change in the future.
