The game is too different from everything else

Tharsis is a new, interesting and rather bizarre game from the Choice Provisions studio, best known for their Bit.Trip titles.

Tharsis is atypical of anything the studio has done until now, but it’s also very different from everything everyone else has done up to this point. It’s described as a turn-based, perma-death, realistic space strategy game, but that’s because it doesn’t really fit in a specific category.

Players can control a mission to Mars that goes horribly wrong, after being struck by a meteor storm. You will have to make important decisions, many times in life-or-death situations, and you need to complete your mission. Many of these decisions are determined with dice rolls, which complicates things immensely.

“Developing Tharsis has been nothing short of a blast, but it’s also had its fair share of difficult times. As anyone making a board game - digital or otherwise - will tell you, the ‘balancing’ phase of production can be a long one indeed,” write developers on the PlayStation blog.

The game has already been in the works for a couple of years, and the studio plans to release it for the PC, PlayStation 4 and iOS. It should arrive on the PlayStation 4 platform in January 2016, so players won’t have to wait too long for this amazing-looking title with a really fascinating concept.
