Blackmagic Design’s URSA Viewfinder is specifically designed to be used with URSA and URSA mini cameras

After announcing the development of its new URSA Viewfinder back in April, now, a month since the device is being sold ($1,495), Blackmagic Design rolled out its 2.6 firmware update utility that includes support for this high resolution electronic unit.

However, even though this new and essential accessory is targeted at anybody doing handheld shooting, bear in mind that it is only compatible with the producer’s URSA and URSA mini imaging devices.

In terms of changes, version 2.6 also includes a new option that displays timecode input by tapping on the timecode display, performance enhancements, as well as improvements for its URSA models.

As for installation, Blackmagic has provided two downloadable packages, just like its previous releases: one suitable for the 64-bit variants of Windows 7 and 8 operating systems, and the other targeted at Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks and later platforms (including Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite).

With this in mind, first run “Uninstall Camera Utility,” download and extract the appropriate archive for your computer’s OS, navigate and run the available setup file, and follow all instructions displayed on-screen for a complete upgrade.

Still, take into account that Blackmagic Cinema Camera and Blackmagic Production Camera 4K require a suitable Thunderbolt port in order to use UltraScope and Media Express. Also, Blackmagic Cinema Camera EF or MFT might experience flickering during the upgrade - this is normal.

That being said, download BlackMagic Camera Firmware Update Utility 2.6, apply it on your system, upgrade your camera in order to benefit from these new improvements, and constantly check our website in order to stay up to speed with the latest releases.
