The new update improves USB storage file upload speeds

Today, Netgear has rolled out a new firmware package compatible with its powerful Nighthawk X8 AC5300 router (R8500), namely version 1.0.0.50, which improves upload speeds from USB-attached storage devices.

Therefore, if you want to benefit from this enhancement, first of all you should find out the router’s currently installed firmware version, make sure it isn’t newer or matching this release, and only afterwards save and unzip the downloadable archive.

In addition to that, it would be a good idea to write down all changes made from the default values, as they might be required upon completion.

If all is OK, establish a wired connection between your router and a computer, log into its dashboard once more (username and password should be required), go to Advanced > Administration > Firmware Upgrade, and click the “Browse” button.

Now, simply navigate and select the newly unzipped .img file, click “Upload,” and wait for your router to do its job.

Bear in mind that, while upgrading (progress bar is filling up), you mustn’t reboot/power off either the router or the computer, remove the Ethernet cable, or interrupt the process in any way. Doing so might cause various malfunctions that you would rather avoid.

That being said, download NETGEAR R8500 Router Firmware 1.0.0.50, and carefully apply it on your wireless unit. Also, check our website as often as possible in order to be aware when newer versions are available for your device.
