AsusWrt-Merlin, well known for its custom software releases, has just made available new stable firmware targeted at some of ASUS’s routers, namely version 378.52, which updates miniupnpd to 1.9.20150309 and OpenSSL to 1.0.0r, and includes several other changes.

Before we highlight any changes, you should know that this release is compatible with the same ASUS RT-AC3200, RT-AC56, RT-AC66, RT-AC68, RT-AC87, and RT-N66 routers as the developer’s AsusWrt-Merlin Firmware 3.0.0.4.378.51.0 previous update was.

In terms of changes, build 378.52 merges with ASUS 378_4608 GPL, adds ECDHE support to WebUI, allows the DHCP server to provide a second DNS for clients, and includes performance optimization for HTTPD, DropBear and RC services.

When it comes to fixes, the present firmware will resolve Samba’s custom config/postconf, the NAT rules that sometimes wouldn’t be applied, as well as various errors spotted on OpenVPN Server page, and also includes several other improvements detailed in the Release Notes below.

As for upgrading, this release can be applied like any other official firmware from ASUS, and you can also revert at any time by installing the appropriate software. Just save and unzip the appropriate package and use the .trx file to update your router.

However, bear in mind that it isn’t recommended to load a saved copy of your settings from one firmware to another: doing so will improperly configure the device.

Considering all aforementioned aspects, download AsusWrt-Merlin Firmware 3.0.0.4.378.52.0 for your specific device model, apply it on the unit, and enjoy the changes that this new release brings about.
