The release allows HTTP, as well as HTTPS content filtering

Today, CradlePoint has announced the availability of a new firmware update compatible with some of its routers, namely version 5.3.4, which resolves a security vulnerability spotted with CradlePoint Router Firmware 5.3.0 and later releases.

Specifically speaking, users running that version who have the HTTP Proxy Content Filtering feature enabled might be vulnerable due to a firewall rule that allows WAN access to port 8118.

In addition to that, CradlePoint’s release includes support for Split DNS, as well as for HTTP and HTTPS content filtering, adds Model Name and Firmware Revision to LLDP string, and allows sending break commands to a serial port attached device.

Moreover, CLI access via device web UI is granted, compatible devices will now display a more accurate update notification rather than a firmware version, and Multiple Serial Port Redirector is supported in the device’s CLI.

Besides the aforementioned changes, the producer’s AIR2100 unit will also be able to use Application ID to match QoS rules, while its IBR1100 device will have the ability to connect to an Access Point using WPA2 Enterprise authentication (only for 2.4GHz radio).

As for the compatible routers, the present update can be applied only on CradlePoint’s CBA750B routers, IBR350, IBR600, IBR650, IBR1100, and IBR1150 device models, as well as on its MBR1200B, MBR1400, MBR1400V2, and AER2100 products.

When it comes to installing this update, first of all check our currently installed firmware version and make sure it isn’t either newer or matching the present release, and only afterwards save the appropriate .bin file developed for your device model.

Bear in mind that users who have HTTP Proxy Content Filtering on must first disable this feature before moving forwards with the upgrade.

Now establish a wired connection between your router and the computer using an Ethernet cable, log into the administration page, go to the “Firmware Update” section, and use the navigation button to browse and select the newly-downloaded .bin file.

If all has been performed properly, agree with the upgrade process, and wait patiently for it to complete. Do not remove the Ethernet/power cable, reboot/turn off either the router or the computer, or close the web page, so that no device malfunctions are encountered.

Therefore, download CradlePoint Router Firmware 5.3.4, follow the above-described steps to apply the new software, and constantly check our website to stay “updated one minute ago.”
