The update resolves several security vulnerabilities

Buffalo has just outed two new firmware packages targeted at some of its NAS models, namely version 1.70 and 1.66 compatible with LinkStation and TeraStation X storage series, respectively, which implement various OpenSSL and Samba security fixes.

Specifically speaking, these releases resolve CVE-2014-3567 and CVE-2014-3568 OpenSSL programming vulnerabilities (a.k.a. POODLE SSL 3.0 vulnerability) and fix an error with the initial WebAccess settings that could have occasionally failed.

In addition to that, the new firmware updates also manage to deal with Samba programming vulnerabilities, such as CVE-2015-0240, CVE-2014-3493, CVE-2014-0244, and CVE-2014-0178 security issues.

Therefore, if these problems have been bothering you, a firmware upgrade should definitely be taken into account.

However, bear in mind that Buffalo has made available two archives for each release: one suitable for Mac OS X platforms and the other compatible with Window XP, Vista, 7, 8, and 8.1 OSes (TS-X models also support Server 2000, 2003, 2008, and 2012).

With this in mind, save and unzip the proper archive, close all programs and processes, and run the available setup file. Afterwards, just select the NAS you want to update, click “Upgrade,” and follow all instructions displayed.

That being told, either download Buffalo LinkStation Firmware 1.70 or download Buffalo TS-X Series Firmware 1.66, apply it on your NAS, and enjoy your newly-improved network storages. Also, don’t forget to stay “updated one minute ago” by constantly checking our website.
