For those of you owning an ASUS RT-AC56, AC66, AC68, AC87, N16, or N66 router model, and wanting something different for it, AsusWrt-Merlin has just rolled its 376.49.0 firmware build that includes several changes and fixes for these devices.

Specifically speaking, Merlin’s release merges with ASUS’ 376_3677 GPL code that improves USB modem support, updates OpenVPN to version 2.3.6, and resolves MAC filtering issues on Guest networks (thanks to John9527).

In addition to that, build 376.49.0 includes various fixes and tweaks for the new IPv6 code provided by Pinwing and saintdev, updates AC87 Quantenna to 36.7.3.23, adds IPv6 support to DNSFilter, and implements several other changes displayed via the “Release Notes” button below.

When it comes to upgrading to this release, you should know that it can be performed like any other official firmware from ASUS, and you can also revert at any time by applying the appropriate software.

However, bear in mind that you mustn’t load a saved copy of your settings from one firmware to another as this will improperly configure the device.

If you are concerned that this release isn’t official, Merlin highlights that its target is to improve the original ASUS firmware, add support for new features, as well as fix various issues, without changing the router’s interface.

With this in mind, download AsusWrt-Merlin Router Firmware 3.0.0.4.376.49.0 for your specific device model, apply it on your unit, and enjoy the changes that this new release brings about.
