For the past couple of months, comedienne Chelsea Handler has been trying hard to prove that sexism is alive and well on social media, on Instagram in particular. She’s been one of the most vocal participants in the “Free the Nipple” campaign, which aims to have the same standards in place for both men and women.

The last time we covered this topic and the photos Chelsea posted that were banned immediately, she compared a topless horseback riding photo of herself with one of Russian President Putin: Putin’s is still online, of course, but hers was deleted minutes after it went up.

There is a double standard when it comes to male and female breasts, and the “Free” campaign wants it gone.

Chelsea is still advocating, having fun in the process

The comedienne is now on vacation skiing. Most women wouldn’t even think of removing one layer of clothing on the slope, for a variety of reasons, but Chelsea saw in her outing the perfect occasion to test Instagram again and see if they were still enforcing their nudity policy, which she deems biased towards women.

Hint: they were. The photos are no longer available online.

Chelsea posted 2 of them, in which she feigned to be looking for her dog, Chunk, while dressed in skiing pants, full head gear, a backpack but no top. Instagram took a bit longer to remove the shots, but it did so in the end.

As on the previous occasion, Twitter is more lenient, so Chelsea posted here a third photo, in which she’s still topless and which she captioned to read that she found Chunk and that Instagram was holding it captive.

Support comes from the unlikeliest place

Do you remember a time in 2010 when Chelsea Handler and rapper 50 Cent were dating? Many fans are still confused as to whether that was a stunt or not, but it seems that he has nothing but love and admiration for her to this day.

The rapper reposted one of the “offensive” shots to his own Instagram feed, with the caption, “Hi haters, boy I love @chelseahandler out of control. Lol.” Naturally, his photo was banned too, but at least for a short while, the entire world knew that he had Chelsea’s back (or better yet, front) in this never-ending battle against Instagram and the powers that be.

Chelsea is not alone

And it’s not just 50 Cent that’s lending his voice to the “Free the Nipple” movement. Bruce Willis’ daughters with ex-wife Demi Moore also flashed skin on social media in support of it, as also did Miley Cyrus, who posted a very revealing selfie just the other day.

Of course, all these photos are now no longer on Instagram, but you can find them online with a simple Google search.

So far, all this celebrity campaigning has done nothing in terms of getting Instagram to change its policy, which has prompted some backlash against the women doing the baring of the skin: according to many, they’re doing it for publicity, not for some higher purpose like they claim.
