Zbigniew Konojacki, the creator and maintainer of the 4MLinux project, has been happy to inform Softpedia today about the immediate availability for download and testing of the Beta build of the upcoming 4MLinux 17.0 distribution.

4MLinux 17.0 Beta is now ready for early adopters and testers who want to help Mr. Konojacki discover bugs and annoyances so that he can patch them before the final production version gets out, which should happen in a few weeks from the moment of writing this article.

The Beta comes with some of the latest open-source software projects, among which we can mention the LibreOffice 5.1.1 office suite, Chromium 50.0.2654.0 and Mozilla Firefox 44.0.2 web browsers, Mozilla Thunderbird 38.6.0 email and news client, as well as the Audacious 3.7.1 and aTunes 3.1.2 music players and organizers.

Powered by the long-term supported Linux 4.4.1 kernel, the distro comes with the VLC Media Player 2.2.2 and MPlayer SVN-r37590 video players, Skype 4.3.0.37 VoIP client, Dropbox 3.14.7 file sharing client, Mesa 11.1.1 3D Graphics Library, and X.Org Server 1.18.1 display server.

4MLinux LAMP Server also available

Users can also set up a LAMP Server in 4MLinux 17.0, thanks to the implementation of some of the latest and greatest server-oriented software projects, including but not limited to Apache 2.4.18, MariaDB 10.1.11, PHP 5.6.18, Perl 5.22.1, as well as Python 2.7.11.

4MLinux 17.0 Beta is now available for download from our website as a Live CD ISO image that includes only 32-bit packages. The ISO, however, is bootable on both 64-bit and 32-bit machines. Please note that a Beta build might contain bugs, so it is not recommended for deployment in production environments.
