You'll attract the envy of Whovians everywhere

Doctor Who is one the longest-running science-fiction TV shows of all time, produced in Great Britain by the BBC and giving birth to many of the Science Fiction themes in the world, and using most of the others in some fashion.

Doctor Who celebrated its fiftieth anniversary back in 2013 and is still going strong, as each time a Doctor dies he regenerates into a completely different-looking person, one with unique personality elements as well.

It is also an easy way to justify changing the lead male actor. Today, though, we're not going to focus on the Doctor himself. And no, it's not his TARDIS that we're looking at either.

Instead, it's one of the older enemies that the Doctor had to fight off, repeatedly: the Daleks. Those things that you barely ever saw because they always wore near-indestructible “suits” shaped like skewed boilers.

Whovians can create their own Dalek starting today

Well, you don't really need to be a Whovian. You only need a 3D printer and the willingness to invest some time into running a few print runs.

Instructables member snifikino has uploaded the 3D design files and assembly guideline for the creation of a highly accurate Dalek.

The body is very complex, with 56 holes on the skirt, 56 hemispheres (normally bronze and gold), and 56 hemi bases (normally black and gray). You can, of course, use other colors if you're feeling the groove.

The cyborg body is made from BronzeFill material, but again, you have other options as well. You might not get the best mass if you experiment too freely though.

The shoulder file and the box decals and slats have to be printed in yet another separate run, as they go around the arms and the weapon, as well as the shoulder, respectively.

After you have all the components, you'll need to glue them all together, with some parts being rather tricky to do properly, so follow the instructions carefully.

The history of the Daleks

The Daleks were invented in 1963 by the Doctor Who writer, but in-universe they are an extraterrestrial race created by an evil scientist. They are, unfortunately, all about exterminating everything else living in the universe. They even have their own catchphrase (Exterminate! Exterminate!), which doesn't sound nearly as glorious as the Obliterate! Annihilate! of Archons in StarCraft.

For being omnicidal creatures of nearly unstoppable might, however, they nonetheless seem to be really popular in Pop Culture.
