Jenny from the Block had an oversized booty, compared to that of other female pop stars, and she was proud of it, not starving herself to get a stick thin frame.
She was among the first celebrities to propose a new beauty ideal in showbiz – and she’s been having a splendid 2014 because this year will go down in history as the year of the booty.
She’s in select company, too: Nicki Minaj, Iggy Azalea, and Kim Kardashian are all female entertainers who have gotten loads of media attention for having a big butt and who never waste a chance of bragging about it.
The booty was everywhere in 2014
Kim Kardashian has been putting in a lot of work hours in terms of making the big booty look happen. If you think about it, the second thing she became famous for is having an oversize posterior – which may or may not have gotten larger in recent years thanks to fillers or some super-hush surgery work she will never admit to.
She’s not the only one to boast a large posterior and to use it to campaign for more body diversity in showbiz: Nicki Minaj (who, we should note, is also suspected of having had her backside enlarged surgically) dropped it low in 2014. Think no farther than her “Anaconda” music video, which is nothing short of an ode to the phat booty.
Iggy Azalea, one of the hottest and newest female rappers on the scene right now (who is also plagued by plastic surgery rumors, by the way), came hard on Nicki’s heels both lyrically and butt-wise. With a waistline like a wasp, Iggy boasts a very large and pert posterior – and she’s happy to show it off whichever chance she gets in revealing leotards and body-hugging clothes.
Then there’s JLo, the original “big booty girl.” There was a time when her figure was appreciated only by a segment of the audience, with the rest still thinking that maybe she could stand to lose a few pounds. 2014 has been a great year for Lopez, who did lose a few pounds thanks to going vegetarian for a while, but this didn’t seem to affect the size of her backside.
Jennifer, much like her famous assets, seems to get better with time: so in 2014, we’ve seen her in some pretty amazing outfits, doing some pretty amazing choreographies, and showing off that pretty amazing backside, including in a video for her collaboration with Iggy appropriately called “Booty.”
Rock the trend: non-famous women also want a big booty
You can tell that 2014 was the year of the big booty from the fact that more and more women out there, famous and non-famous, are spending a lot of money to get it, whether through plastic surgery or dedicated workouts which give a whole new meaning to the phrase “bust your butt off.”
The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery reports a 58 percent increase in buttock augmentation procedures, Yahoo! Health notes. The image that stars like Jennifer, Nicki, Kim, and Iggy are selling is striking a chord with women all over the world, not just in the US – to the point where getting a bigger, perkier, and rounder backside has become a top surgical procedure.
Of course, you can also get visible results without going under the knife, by working out. They won’t be as spectacular as those obtained through surgery: you don’t get Kim’s oversize derriere by doing squats, but you will, at the very least, make sure that what Mother Nature gave you is at its best.
Squats, butt endurance work, reverse lunges, and the much-dreaded, painful but oh-so-efficient hip lift / glute squeeze are among the most common exercises you can do at home, to make sure you tone your butt and maintain it perky.
2014 was the year of the booty, but it looks it won’t be going away anytime soon.
