The power supply has been caught on camera

Power supply units are one area where Corsair has always preferred to do the best it could, even though its products usually end up costing a fair bit of cash because of it. The new HX1200i is the latest evidence of that.

While I don't know what price the power supply has, I'm willing to bet it's of $160 - $200 / €130 - €163 (more likely €160 - €200, exchange rates or no), probably on the high side.

After all, you can't have a PSU with a wattage of 1200W and 80 Plus Platinum efficiency without the cost suffering for it. Especially when you throw a load-based fan into the mix.

“Load-based” means that the fan doesn't turn on unless the load on the PSU goes above a certain level. Passive cooling handles light tasks, like web browsing and doc writing. Great for people who like to save money and appreciate the silence.

Also, the “i” in the product name means that the Corsair HX1200i will use the Corsair Link technology, which lets you monitor load, efficiency, fan speeds, and other parameters over USB.

Unfortunately, the availability date of the fully modular Corsair HD1200i 1200W 80 Plus Platinum PSU is as unknown as the price.
