Apple seems poised to do away with the backlit logo

A redesigned MacBook Air is coming out this year, and we may have the first real pictures of the product thanks to a leak in the Far East. Close to a dozen images depict the computer’s top lid (which holds the display), with one interesting change being immediately evident.

Obtained from an anonymous source, the images were initially published by iFanr and subsequently picked up by the rest of the Apple blogosphere. There’s no reason not to trust the legitimacy of the photos, but we also can’t say with 100% certainty that they are real.

The leak shows only half of the computer, namely the upper lid which holds the display. Like with most MacBooks launched by Apple throughout the years, one lid is enough to determine the actual size of the entire computer.

The leaked part appears to come equipped with the display, as well as the flexible connectors that are supposed to go into the motherboard. The display has not been turned on (at least not for the photo shoot), and there’s no word regarding the pixel density.

A more interesting change is the darkened Apple logo. Currently, the Apple logo on all MacBook computers is white and has backlighting. This iconic design element has served Apple well for the past decade, making its computers highly distinguishable, especially in television appearances. So it would seem rather odd for the company to axe this staple of the Apple brand.

However, there have been rumors that Apple plans to exert some changes to the logo on its Macs, so maybe this is it. Scroll through the gallery below for more images of the leaked 12-inch Air.
