It's been a while since we've heard from Black Lab Software's Linux kernel enablement kit for Black Lab Linux and Ubuntu-based operating systems, but today we have been informed by Roberto J. Dohnert that the kernel 4.1.6 Update Kit has been released.

What this means is that any user who runs an Ubuntu-based operating system, such as Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, Black Lab Linux 6, Linux Mint 17.2, etc., can now upgrade to the kernel packages to the latest stable and most advanced version available, Linux 4.1.6 LTS.

"Today we are pleased to release the new kernel update kit for Black Lab Linux. This will update your system with the Linux kernel 4.1.6," says Roberto J. Dohnert. "It includes 32-bit and 64-bit support."

The Linux kernel 4.1.6 Enablement Kit officially supports the Black Lab Linux 4.x, 5.x, 6.x, 2015.x series, Ubuntu 12.x, 14.x, and 15.x series, as well as all of the Linux Mint 17.x series. As mentioned in Mr. Dohnert email, both 64-bit and 32-bit editions of these OSes are supported by the Linux Kernel 4.1.6 Update Kit.

To update your Linux kernel packages to Linux kernel 4.1.6 LTS, you must download the Linux Kernel 4.1.6 Enablement Kit, save the file in your Home directory, extract it, open the Terminal app, and run the following commands.

code
cd ~/
chmod +x kernel-enablement-kit-4.1.6
sudo ./kernel-enablement-kit-4.1.6
Please note that Black Lab Software's Linux kernel 4.1.6 Update Kit is actually a script that will download the official Linux kernel 4.1.6 LTS packages from Canonical's kernel PPA for Ubuntu. We've tested it on Ubuntu 15.04 (Vivid Vervet) and it works fine.
