Video game developer Firaxis and publisher 2K Games are announcing that they are delaying the launch of their long-awaited XCOM 2 to February 5, 2016, with the title still set to only arrive on the PC.

The official announcement is brief and states, "We’ve set a high bar for the sequel, and the entire team has been working hard to make sure we deliver a great follow-up to Enemy Unknown. We just need a little more time to make it the best possible game."

Firaxis says that XCOM 2 will have more depth, more replayability and more features than the first installment in the reboot, and that means that the studio needs some more time to finish the development process.

In a follow-up note that was posted on Facebook, the company says that it appreciates the messages of support that it has received from gamers.

On some forums, fans are speculating that the delay to February 5, 2016 for XCOM 2 is linked to the ambition that Firaxis has for the game but also to the fact that the launch schedule for November of this year, when the release was supposed to take place, is very crowded.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3, which might be the biggest game of the year, is coming out on November 6.

XCOM 2 will ask gamers to fight an insurgency

Despite the fact that most of the gamers who played the original managed to stop the alien invasion with their operatives, the sequel's narrative is supposed to reflect the fact that Earth forces were defeated by the invaders.

Now, with the help of a collaborationist government called Advent, they have created a range of mega-cities in which most of the population is living, and they are promoting the idea that the two factions are working together for the betterment of both.

XCOM 2 is designed to use procedurally generated maps and will also feature five new classes, with gamers having more options when it comes to the development of their tech and the deployment of their soldiers.

Firaxis wants gamers to try and wage a classic guerrilla campaign, striking at alien targets without being tracked while they gather the resources that they need to attempt to evict them from Earth altogether.
