Microsoft is planning to add a range of new features to the Xbox One in the coming months as it seeks to make the home console more attractive to potential customers, and it seems that the company is also working on the introduction of custom configurations for all controllers for the device.

The information comes from an answer that Mike Ybarra, the director of program management for the platform, delivered to a gamer who was enquiring for the reasons behind the decision to only offer the feature for the coming Elite version of the controller.

He did not say when the feature might be added or how extensive it would be, but gamers will surely be happy to learn that they will have more options and will be able to make sure that their choice of layout reflects their preferences.

The new feature will probably be mostly used for first-person shooters and might be delivered in time to support the arrival of Halo 5: Guardians, which is supposed to arrive on the Xbox One on October 27.

It's also possible that the custom controller layout will be offered at the same time as the new user experience for the console, which does not yet have a clear launch date.

The Xbox One needs to get some competitive advantages

At the moment, the Microsoft device is lagging behind the PlayStation 4 from Sony in terms of sales both in the United States and on a worldwide level.

Microsoft is trying a number of strategies in order to reverse the situation in time for the very important Christmas shopping season.

The company is planning to add new features to the Xbox One via the new user experience and will also introduce backwards compatibility for titles offered on the Xbox 360.

At the same time, it has revealed a number of interesting bundles that will be launched during the current month and in November, and it is doing a solid marketing push for Halo 5: Guardians.

Microsoft has also been insisting that Sony is planning to introduce a price cut for the PlayStation 4, probably hoping that some gamers will hold off on a purchase as they wait for an official announcement about such a move.
