No list of all supported titles has been offered

The team in charge of the backwards compatibility feature for the Xbox One is announcing that downloadable content associated with a title that was launched on the Xbox 360 can also be played on the more modern device, as long as developers and publishers decide to approve it.

The feature was confirmed by the official support Twitter account for the brand, but it's unclear whether the company will try to push other companies to deliver all the DLC or if it will not be involved in the content selection process.

Microsoft is also saying that backwards compatibility for the Xbox One will cover Achievements and cloud saves.

Basically, the company is creating a full emulation of the Xbox 360 in its more modern hardware to make sure that players can enjoy content that they have already bought.

The biggest problem is that publishers will have to give the green light to get their titles into the program, which will probably not happen for video games that are already part of remastered collections or will be re-released in the future.

So far, Bethesda has confirmed that it will deliver a free copy of Fallout 3 to all those who pick up the new title in the series on the Xbox One.

No plans for Sony to deliver the same feature for the PlayStation 4

Apparently, a bigger list of titles that will be included in the backwards compatibility program will be offered in the coming months, and those who are part of the preview program can already test the feature.

Sony has said that it does not plan to introduce backwards compatibility for the PlayStation 4 because only a small number of users are interested in it.

The company wants to use the PlayStation Now streaming tech to give gamers access to some older titles on the new platform.

Microsoft and Sony are both trying to make their devices more attractive for the second half of 2015, building up to the all-important holiday season.

The Xbox One made its price cut permanent and is focused on its line-up of exclusive titles, including Forza Motorsport 6, Halo 5: Guardians, and The Rise of the Tomb Raider.

Sony, on the other hand, is more focused on extra content for popular titles like Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 and Destiny - The Taken King and has no plans to introduce a reduction in price.
