As we reported last week, the final Beta of the upcoming Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) operating system was announced, and it also included the Beta 2 builds for several official flavors.

We were the first to report on the Ubuntu 16.04 LTS Final Beta release on March 25, 2016, and we wrote several articles about the new changes implemented in the Beta 2 releases of Ubuntu MATE 16.04 LTS, Kubuntu 16.04 LTS, Ubuntu GNOME 16.04 LTS, Ubuntu Kylin 16.04 LTS, and Ubuntu Studio 16.04 LTS.

Since then, we've been asked by many of our readers what happened with the Xubuntu and Lubuntu flavors, so we've decided to write a quick article and give you some details on that, and most importantly, offer you the download links to the Live ISO images.

The truth is that there are no significant changes in the Lubuntu 16.04 LTS Beta 2 and Xubuntu 16.04 LTS Beta 2 releases, with the exception of the fact that both are now powered by Linux kernel 4.4.6 LTS. While Xubuntu no longer ships with a default media manager installed, Lubuntu stays with the LXDE desktop environment.

If you want to take the Beta 2 releases of Lubuntu 16.04 LTS and Xubuntu 16.04 LTS for a spin, you can download the 64-bit and 32-bit Live ISO images for Xubuntu 16.04 LTS Beta 2, as well as the 64-bit, 32-bit, and PowerPC (PPC) Live ISO images for Lubuntu 16.04 LTS Beta 2 right now via our website.

Please keep in mind that you won't be able to upgrade from Xubuntu 14.04 LTS or Lubuntu 14.04 LTS at the time and that these are pre-release versions, which means that they contain a lot of known issues. More details should be available in their official release notes here and here.
