The Xubuntu developers had the great pleasure of announcing just a few minutes ago, October 22, that the Xubuntu 15.10 (Wily Werewolf) operating system was officially released and is available for download now.

As you might know, Canonical released today, October 22, the final build of the highly anticipated Ubuntu 15.10 (Wily Werewolf) computer operating system for desktops, servers, and mobile devices. As part of this release, many Ubuntu flavors were updated to version 15.10 as well, including Kubuntu, Xubuntu, Lubuntu, Ubuntu Studio, Ubuntu MATE, Ubuntu GNOME, and Ubuntu Kylin.

In this article, we will talk about the new features implemented in Xubuntu 15.10, an official Ubuntu flavor built on top of the Xfce 4.12 desktop environment. But first things first, let's take a quick look under the hood of the Wily Werewolf release of Xubuntu, where we can notice that the OS runs on a 4.2 kernel based on the latest upstream Linux 4.2.3 kernel.

"The Xubuntu team is pleased to announce the immediate release of Xubuntu 15.10," said the Xubuntu developers in the release announcement. "Thanks go to all involved in getting Wily Werewolf from week 1 to week 26, not least those who tested for us during the milestones."

Here's what's new in Xubuntu 15.10

Among prominent features of Xubuntu 15.10, we mention the inclusion of the Xfce4 Panel Switch, which users can use for backing up and restoring Xfce panels. The tool comes with five different preset panel layouts. Moreover, as you can see from the screenshot tour attached at the end of the article, there are now Greybird accessibility icons for the window manager and a brand new wallpaper.

Furthermore, the AbiWord word processor and Gnumeric spreadsheet editor software that had been present in Xubuntu for a long time were replaced with the more powerful LibreOffice Write and LibreOffice Calc, respectively. Additionally, the Xubuntu developers added a new theme for the LibreOffice office suite, called libreoffice-style-elementary.

Some bugs remain open in this Xubuntu release, as users are being informed that the gmusicbrowser music player software is known to crash when it is closed. The issue will be fixed in the near feature, but until then, you can download Xubuntu 15.10 (Wily Werewolf) right now from Softpedia, where the OS is distributed as 32-bit and 64-bit Live ISO images.
