Jackie Lindsey wears a protective suit whenever she goes out

About 8 years ago, Jackie Lindsey of Dorset, UK, started experiencing dizziness, numbness in her limbs, and even sharp, sudden pains in her eyes. She was examined by medical experts but nobody managed to figure out what it was that was causing her symptoms.

Convinced that she wasn't just imagining the pain, the dizziness and the numbness, the woman did some research of her own and eventually diagnosed herself with allergy to electricity. Well, actually, the official name for this condition is electromagnetic hypersensitivity. Or idiopathic environmental intolerance attributed to electromagnetic fields, if you prefer.

The woman now leads a very simple life

Having diagnosed herself with allergy to electricity, Jackie Lindsey did the one thing that she knew for sure would rid her of the symptoms that come with this condition: she ditched all electronics and embraced a very simple lifestyle.

The 50-year-old woman now lives her life by candlelight in a rural community and relies solely on gas for heating and cooking. No microwave oven, no TV, no smartphone, no any of the gadgets and gizmos that some people feel they can't make it through the day without.

She says that coming anywhere near a Wi-Fi or mobile phone signal could cause her to experience an allergic reaction serious enough to kill her. For this reason, she makes sure to put on a protective suit whenever she leaves her home.

50-year-old Jackie Lindsey also carries a special device designed to test the intensity of nearby electromagnetic fields when she goes out, just to make sure she has nothing to worry about and can go about her business without putting her life in danger.

“I wear the suit whenever I leave the house, it has 20 per cent silver woven into the fabric which reflects the magnetic field. It doesn't give that much protection but it allows me to be out a bit longer,” the woman said in an interview.

Jackie Lindsey hardly ever sees her family

Seeing how she lives in isolation and can't join friends and family to celebrate birthdays or Christmas, the 50-year-old admits that her life is quite lonely and that she often struggles with solitude. Besides, she very much misses being able to watch TV or listen to music.

“I've lost everything in life that makes you feel human. I can't go on holiday and feel sad at Christmas and festive times when I want to join in but can't,” Jackie Lindsey told the press. At least for now, there is no cure or at least a treatment for electromagnetic hypersensitivity.

In fact, the UK's National Health Service does not even recognize this condition, DM tells us. This is despite the fact that, according to recent reports, about 4% of the country's population display symptoms consistent with being allergic to electricity.
