Wine developers have just announced that a new version of the application has been made available, bringing a number of improvements and various fixes for apps and games.

Each new version of Wine brings quite a few enhancements to the software and a ton of fixes for games and applications. This one is no different, but it's also one of the last version released with the current release model. Developers have talked about changing how Wine is released, and they have some pretty interesting plans in the making, including freezing the software for a new stable release.

In fact, there are two different changelogs for each new edition of Wine. According to the main changelog, the Unicode data has been updated to Unicode 8.0.0, some implementation of the Web Services DLL has been done, more Direct3D 11 interfaces have been added, a few more functions in the C++ runtime have been introduced, and the output of standard glyph names in the PostScript driver is now normal.

What's new in Wine 1.7.52

Wine 1.7.45 comes with changes to the following Windows games and tools: Settlers III, ConceptDraw, JewelQuest, Monster Truck Madness 2 Trial, Flying Model Simulator, Baldur's Gate 2, Dragon Age II, Desperados, Requiem: Avenging Angel, Lord of the Rings, League of Legends, Space Pirates and Zombies, Starcraft II, Warcraft 3, SimCity 4 Deluxe, Wizardry 7, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II, World of Warcraft, Homeworld Remastered, and many others.

Users can easily install the development build of Wine with the help of a PPA. This can be done by opening a terminal and entering these commands in a terminal (root is needed):

code
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-wine/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install wine
It's likely that the repository won't get the latest version for a few days. More details about this release can be found in the official changelog. You can download Wine 1.7.52 source packages right now from Softpedia.
