Numerous Windows apps will now work better in Wine

Alexandre Julliard announced earlier today, October 30, the immediate availability for download and testing of a new development version of the Wine software that lets users run Windows apps and games on any GNU/Linux operating system.

Prominent features of Wine 1.7.54 include the implementation of the TransmitFile function, better video decoding, the addition of an alternative tool for the deprecated perlink utility, additional Web Services DLL implementation, a major update to the Turkish language translation, as well as numerous bug fixes.

According to the changelog, Wine 1.7.54 fixes 51 bugs reported by users since the previous release of the software. Among these, we can mention improvements to numerous Windows applications, such as Paint.NET 3.22, Paint.NET 3.36, Poison Ivy, IVONA Voices/Reader (SAPI TTS) 1.0.16, CamStudio, and Word Perfect Lightning 1.0 Beta.

Additionally, the Protel Advanced PCB Design System 2.5, KidStarter Shell, HyperCam 2.x, Pepakura Viewer, Adobe Shockwave 12.1, WordPerfect 10 (Corel Office 2002), OneDrive for Business C2R, Kega Fusion 3.64, Evernote 5.0.3, Photoshop CS6, Word Viewer 2007, EZCastPro 1.4, and Wolfram Research Mathematica 10.2 were also fixed.

Many Windows games received improvements

In addition to the numerous Windows apps fixed in Wine 1.7.54, many Windows games received enhancements too. Among them, we can mention: MSWT Kart 2004, Defense Grid: The Awakening, Guild Wars 2, Assassin's Creed III, Warcraft Voice Chat, Serious Sam HD: TSE, Midnight Nowhere Demo, Pinball Science, Call of Duty: United Offensive, and Mad Father.

Also, the You Don’t Know Jack V1 XL, American Mcgee's Alice, Granny In Paradise Demo, Sniper Elite V2 Demo, and Galactic Civilizations III Windows games were fixed too. You can download Wine 1.7.54 right now from Softpedia, but please try to keep in mind that this is a pre-release software, which means that it is not suitable for deployment on production systems.
