Microsoft is working at full speed to bring Windows 10 Mobile on the market as soon as possible, but in the meantime, Windows Phone is gaining users, and new statistics come to confirm that the current OS version belonging to the software giant is improving.

Data provided by Kantar for the three-month period ending July 2015 shows that Windows Phone managed to increase its market share in almost every single big market. The only exception is Spain, where Windows Phone dropped from 4.6 percent to 4.0 percent.

Right now, Windows Phone adoption is on the rise in Europe and this isn’t really surprising. Europe has always been a more successful market for Windows Phone, at least as compared to the United States, and market share figures here show that smartphone buyers are more interested in Microsoft’s platform than in almost any other part of the world.

In Germany, for instance, Windows Phone currently has a market share of 10.1 percent, which is an increase of 4 percent versus the same period the year before. Compare this with Windows Phone's 3.8 percent market share in the United States, and it becomes very clear that Europe is Microsoft’s favorite playground for the mobile business.

An increase in the US too

And yet, despite the fact that in the United States Windows Phone is still behind its performance in Europe, these stats reveal a 1.3 percent increase too, which is actually a really important achievement for Microsoft. In the US, Android still leads the pack with 65.6 percent, followed by Android with 30.1 percent.

But getting back to Europe, Windows Phone is fairly more successful here. In the United Kingdom, it has already achieved 12 percent, while in France, it has reached 12.6 percent. Italy appears to be Windows Phone’s favorite market, as it powers 14.5 percent of the devices there.

These figures could improve even more in the coming months, as we approach the release of Windows 10 Mobile, because the new OS will be offered free of charge to device running Windows Phone.
