Windows 10 is an operating system that’s supposed to be used not only on PCs and laptops but also on tablets, and Microsoft has specifically focused on this side of the software to optimize the so-called tablet mode.

And all these efforts are going to pay off in the coming years, Strategy Analytics says, as the company expects sales of Windows tablets to get very close to those of iPads by 2019.

Windows is now a premium operating system for tablets, the analysts claim, and Microsoft has certainly had a huge contribution here, not only with all these software improvements but also thanks to the hardware it produces and that boasts the latest in terms of specifications.

In the first nine months of 2015, sales of Windows tablets had already increased by 58 percent year-on-year, the firm says, and the same ascending trend is likely to be maintained in the remaining time of the year, to eventually reach 22 million devices. This means Windows will account for 10 percent of the total tablet market.

Continued growth until 2019

By 2019, Windows is expected to continue its growth and will eventually achieve a market share of 18 percent. iPads will continue to be ahead at that point with 23 percent, the estimates show, while Android will remain number one with 59 percent.

“Windows Tablets will have a more balanced approach than Android’s mass market, low cost appeal, but will nevertheless produce many millions of sub-$150 wholesale ASP Tablets, contributing to growing market share,” it’s mentioned in the forecast.

Certainly, by 2019, Microsoft will also bring new tablets to the market, and partners will do the same thing, so these estimates could be easily surpassed if more people discover the benefits of running Windows 10 on their tablets. Time will tell if Microsoft has a chance in this market, but at the same time, don’t expect its rivals to stand still this whole time.
