14 DAY TRIAL // Microsoft is working to unify platforms with Windows 10 and bring together PCs and smartphones and the latest version of the mobile operating system comes with improvements that could really come in handy when working on a desktop computer.
Starting with Windows 10 Mobile build 10572 and Windows 10 for PC build 10565, users can see missed phone calls and send text messages straight from their desktops with help from their personal assistant Cortana.
The way the feature works is really simple.
If you use the two aforementioned OS versions on your PCs and mobile devices and you are logged in with the same account on both, Cortana lets you know whenever there’s a missed call. The notification is displayed on your desktop, and you are provided with options to ignore the missed call or reply with a text straight from the PC.

The notification is sent to all computers where you are logged in with the same account, but you can obviously control which ones to get it from Cortana’s notebook where you can toggle the “Missed call notifications” option on or off.
Zero configuration is required and Microsoft says that if you simply don’t want to use this feature and don’t have the time to configure which devices to display the notification, you can always go to Cortana’s Notebook on your phone and move the “Missed call notifications” toggle to off.
This feature is only available in preview builds of Windows 10 and Windows 10 Mobile for now, but since Microsoft is already experimenting, expect it to debut for stable users anytime soon unless a major bug is found.
The only drawback is that Cortana is only available in a limited number of markets for the moment (Microsoft is working to release it in other countries too) and that in order to use the personal assistant, the location toggle must be switched to on all the time (which isn’t quite everyone’s cup of tea, especially for those obsessed with privacy).
