Microsoft improved performance on low-ends in latest build

Microsoft has rolled out Windows 10 Mobile build 10586.71 for the slow ring, and Gabe Aul has hinted that it could soon be released for everyone, so it’s no surprise that the Windows team has worked very hard to improve performance on old Lumia phones.

But the results the company has achieved with this new build are impressive to say the least, as performance on Windows Phone devices with just 512 MB of RAM has been significantly improved.

A post on reddit shows that low-end devices such as the Lumia 520 are blazing fast after the update to build 10586.71, although there are a few users who complain that, in their case, only little has been changed in terms of speed and performance. The majority, however, praised the build for the way it runs on 512MB devices.

We can confirm, however, that Lumia 520 is running a lot faster than before after the update to this new build, and the painful “resuming” screen that showed up every once in a while before this version is almost gone.

“Finally I am enjoying a decent experience on the Lumia 630, similar to how it was on WP8.1. No more lag just to unlock the screen and the multiple loading screens between apps are reduced. Hopefully this means the rollout is very close,” one user explains on reddit after installing this latest build on Lumia 630.

With Windows 10 Mobile build 10586.71, Microsoft has specifically focused on the upgrade process from Windows Phone to the new operating system, so this build could indeed be the one that might be offered to old Lumia devices. Previous reports indicated that Windows 10 Mobile would launch in mid-February, but it’s not yet clear if all WP models would get it at the same time or in waves.

Microsoft said that absolutely all Windows Phone devices would support Windows 10 Mobile, although some features might not be available because of hardware limitations, so seeing the new OS performing so well on 512 MB models is certainly encouraging.
