Windows 10 adoption is on the rise all over the world, and new statistics show that, in some European markets, the new operating system is getting very close to Windows 7.

Scandinavian markets have always rushed the move to new software, and in the case of Windows 10, they made no exception, with preliminary data provided by StatCounter for the month of February showing that the market share of the new operating system is close to reaching the same level as Windows 7’s.

This is clearly an important milestone in the growth of Windows 10, as Microsoft hopes to see more people moving to the new operating system by 2017 in order to reach the 1 billion devices goal that the company announced during the July 2015 launch.

Windows market shares in Denmark

Specifically, Windows 7 is currently running on 32.92 percent of the desktop computers in Denmark while Windows 10 is second in the charts with 27.95 percent. Mac OS X is third with 18.45 percent, followed by Windows 8.1 with 12.7 percent.

Windows 10 is clearly growing at a really fast pace in these Scandinavian markets, and it’s very obvious that users in these countries don’t mess with old software. Windows XP, for instance, is still running on just 1.43 percent of the computers in Denmark, most of them likely to be used by state departments and companies that are yet to migrate.

Keep in mind, however, that these are just preliminary figures for February, so they could easily change this week, depending on how many people complete the transition to Windows 10. Nevertheless, the Windows 10 adoption goes very well for Microsoft’s new operating system, and if the same rate is maintained, it has all the chances to take over the leading place in certain markets as soon as March.
