14 DAY TRIAL // Windows 10 was launched on July 29, and in just three days, the new operating system managed to grow so much that it more than doubled its share on Steam, Valve’s gaming platform that’s currently dominated by the 64-bit version of Windows 7.
Windows 10 64-bit scored the biggest increase in July, with its usage skyrocketing by 1.16 percent and achieving 2.21 percent. The 32-bit version of the operating also increased 0.04 percent, but its share now stands at 0.09 percent.
Windows 7 64-bit is currently the number one PC operating system on Steam with a share of 44.81 percent, but its share declined by 1.01 percent, which is the living proof that more users are interested in switching to Windows 10 for gaming.
The 64-bit flavor of Windows 8.1, however, also managed to score an important increase of 0.63 percent, growing to 31.85 percent and getting one step closer to the leader Windows 7. But there’s no doubt that Windows 8.1’s growth will slow down in the coming months, as interest in Windows 10 is on the rise and more people will install it thanks to the free upgrade offer.
Windows XP almost nowhere to be seen
Windows 10’s arrival also convinced more users to step away from Windows XP, and as far as gaming is concerned, moving to a newer operating system is the only option to experience the best possible performance.
So Windows XP is rapidly losing its users, with the 32-bit version now at 2.85 percent, down 0.22 percent from the month before.
All in all, it’s pretty clear that Windows 10 is finally considered a worthy successor to Windows 7, and with the improvements it brings, playing games on this particular OS version is not at all that difficult, so expect these figures to continue to increase in the coming months, as it becomes available to more users across the world.
