Microsoft rolls out option to disable conversation view

Microsoft overhauled the Mail app in Windows 10, so it now comes with a new look, more features, and increased performance, but this doesn’t necessarily mean that it can replace our desktop email client.

In fact, it still lacks some key features, but recently, Microsoft has finally implemented one of the most requested options since the Mail app was first released to users in Windows 10.

The Mail app received an update earlier this week, but because of Microsoft’s “no big update, no change log” strategy, there was no release information available, so it was pretty difficult to tell exactly what was new in that version. Besides the obvious performance improvements and bug fixes, that is.

It turns out that, starting with this update, you are finally capable of turning off conversation view in the inbox, so in case you received emails with the same subject, messages can now be displayed individually in your mail account.

This is a welcome change for Windows 10 users who want to have full control of their emails but also to read certain messages faster, as sometimes working with the conversation view makes it harder to find a specific item.

Does it have what it takes to replace Thunderbird or desktop Outlook?

The email app certainly comes with pretty big updates in Windows 10, but does it have what it takes to become your everyday client and replace desktop apps such as Thunderbird and Outlook?

At first glance, it looks nice, it works well, and it certainly feels modern, but after a while, the Windows 10 Mail app seems to have some sort of delays when it comes to new messages and notifications. At the same time, it also fails to correctly interpret some HTML messages and this seems to be a common problem, as we’ve seen it in Windows Phone 8.1’s email app too.

On the bright side, Microsoft’s still working on this app, so with little luck, it could become the preferred mail client for more users in the coming months.
